Lily Schulenberg ~ Miss Teen Rodeo Iowa 2024
Hey y’all! Hailing from Aurelia, Iowa, my name is Lily Schulenberg, your Miss Teen Rodeo Iowa 2024, the daughter of Justin and Mary Schulenberg. I am blessed to be a part of a large family, including three brothers, Kaden, Kouper, and Kalvin! When my reign begins I will be a junior at Alta-Aurelia High School in Alta, and will be starting my senior year as my reign as Miss Teen Rodeo Iowa 2024 comes to a close.
In my community, I stay active in several organizations and leadership positions. I currently serve my FFA chapter as the vice president. I am also a member of the National Honor Society. Whether it’s helping at Ag Safety day for younger kids or competing in contests of my own FFA is a large part of my life. FFA has helped me to go out of my comfort zone and grow as an individual. I also have had the opportunity to attend the FFA National Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana.
My love for horses began as a young girl, just exploring project areas in my local 4-H club. One year in the program, and I was hooked. My experiences in 4-H have shaped me into the young woman I am today. In my first county fair I placed 1st in disciplined rail which really helped me learn about different types of rail work, and how different horses cooperate when told to do a specific task. These lessons propelled me into growing my skills and appreciation for horses. My involvement in the program also keeps me busy! I am an active member of two 4-H clubs: Cavaliers 4-H Club, to specifically focus on the horse project, and County Pioneers 4-H Club, which explores all project areas offered in the program. I serve in the capacities of secretary and president in those two clubs, respectively. I am also the president of the Cherokee 4-H County Council, and a member of the State 4-H Council. County 4-H Council is a group of Cherokee County 4-H members in grades 9-12. The group provides input on current county 4-H programs and plans and carries out county-wide events and activities. The Iowa State 4-H Council is composed of approximately 40 energetic and positive high school juniors and seniors who act as ambassadors for Iowa 4-H and plan the Iowa 4-H State Conference. One of my favorite 4-H memories was traveling to Atlanta, Georgia this past year to attend the 2023 National 4-H Congress. While I was there I attended speakers, workshops, and more.
As a member of the Iowa High School Rodeo Association, I travel the state amongst other high school students to compete in the rodeo events of barrel racing and pole bending. Through this family-oriented organization I have built lifelong friendships and deepened my love for the sport of rodeo.
I am so excited to represent the state of Iowa, as your Miss Teen Rodeo Iowa 2024! I am ready to promote the sport of rodeo to future and past generations. I was once the little girl that looked up to the rodeo queens and I am ready to do that for the younger boys and girls now. I look forward to meeting new people and helping them realize what rodeo truly is.
