Larry Roberts Rodeo Spirit Award
The Larry Roberts Rodeo Spirit Award recipient is selected by the judges and pageant personnel and is not part of the score in determining Miss Rodeo Iowa or Miss Teen Rodeo Iowa. A contestant's strength of character, her love of rodeo and an enthusiastic outlook on life are the qualities an award recipient possesses.
Larry was the uncle of Kimber (Metcalf) Dall and was a member of the Tri-State Rodeo committee for over two decades. For fifteen years he served as the secretary/treasurer of the organization and also served as Chairman. Larry lived his life enthusiastically and by the Code of the West. He received many honors throughout his lifetime including being named Citizen of the Year and Grand Marshall of the Tri-State Rodeo Parade. During Kimber's reign Larry was diagnosed with cancer, and although he fought the disease valiantly, he lost the battle just before Kimber represented Iowa at the Miss Rodeo America Pageant. The award serves as a reminder of his love for his family, for life and for the sport of rodeo.
