Kara Telfer ~ Miss Rodeo Iowa 2013

Picture
Kara Telfer is the daughter of Jim and Angie Jensen and calls Underwood, IA home.  She is a 2009 graduate of Underwood High School where she was a member of jazz band, color guard, as well as the basketball, track, and cross country teams. She was a four-time state qualifier in cross country and track and a Drake Relays qualifier in 2009. She is currently a senior at Creighton University where she is majoring in biology. At Creighton she serves as the secretary of the pre-vet club and has her sights set on pursuing a Doctor of Veterinary Science degree upon graduation.

Outside of school Kara has been active showing horses with the Arabian Horse Society of Iowa and local saddle club gaming events. She enjoys camping and trail riding with her family and is a member of the Ride and Tie Association. In 2009 she reigned as Miss United Rodeo Association.

When she's not riding or studying she enjoys running, playing the piano and spending time with her supportive family. Kara looks forward to her year as Miss Rodeo Iowa 2013 and hopes to share her passion for horses and rodeo in order to give back to the horse industry and agricultural community which she believes shaped her into who she is today.  You can follow Kara's adventures this year on her blog and Facebook page.

A Word from our President ~ Doug Dall

January 1, 2013

As I conclude my first year as president of the Miss Rodeo Iowa board of directors and reflect on the past 12 months, I wonder where did the time go? It seems like Rachel, Jenna, and Emma just started their adventure. First, I want to thank these three young ladies for the job they did representing the Miss Rodeo Iowa organization, the sport of rodeo and our state as mature, and classy cowgirls. We should all be proud of the job they did this year; they were all a pleasure to have as title holders. Second I would like to thank all of our sponsors, and supporters of our organization, we truly could not do it without you folks! The donations of your time, money, and products, are what make it possible for our association be where it is.

Next, I want to thank the Board for the hard work that they put in this year. We set a lot of high expectations and goals and we achieved several of those goals. These folks are dedicated volunteers who have a passion for the Miss Rodeo Iowa organization. One of our big accomplishments was being able to have our National Director involved with Miss Rodeo America mid-year meetings along with having her in Las Vegas during the entire pageant to help Miss Rodeo America on several committees, the exposure that this gives our state is crucial to our organization.

Finally, I am very excited for the upcoming 2013 year! We are fortunate to have three very capable young ladies to carry on the torch. I have no doubts Kara, Paige, and Shayla will do great things in 2013. Please continue to watch these three ladies through their year because the possibilities are endless as to what they are capable of doing. As for the Board of Directors we will continue to move the needle and give as many opportunities as we can to the girls that want to be a part of this great organization. Thank you and we will see you on the rodeo trail.
